This is fabulous set of 18th century George III candlesticks.
One bearing the makers mark of John Scofield, London 1779
One bearing the makers mark of Benjamin Laver, 1784
Both are cast (not filled) and made in London
Sterling silver
One is by John Scofield, London 1779 and the other by Benjamin Laver, London 1784 both bearing the same crest. What is likely to have happened is that the original set were ordered in 1779 and then the set was extended in 1784.
The candlesticks are indentical in design bar a couple very minor differences such as the beading on the base of the candlestick is very slightly more pronounced on the example by John Scofield.
That being said they are a magnificent set of genuine 18th century cast candlesticks ready to be enjoyed!
